Grab Life By the Wheel…Beauty is Power

... so much has changed since I last blogged.. the layout, I mean.

....am I the only one who doesn't really like it.. ? Anyway, this post isn't about me. In fact, one of the main reasons why I'm blogging again is because I was recently contacted by Jackie Clark. She does outreach for the Mesothelioma Cancer Alliance, a leading web resource for mesothelioma cancer... how awesome is she?

And to think that she wants to guest blog on my site? Shoooooot.. haha.

I would strongly advise you guys to take a look.. even if you're just skimming through.
It really is all in a state of mind. . (you'll understand if you read ;) )

Grab Life By the Wheel…Beauty is Power
By: Jackie Clark

Despite what a woman may be going through; she should feel beautiful and confident within her own skin. Life can throw many curveballs at us; however, it is the way we overcome adversity that make the people who we are today, why not just look great while doing it? If you find yourself being diagnosed with a cancer such as mesothelioma; relax, you can win this battle of regaining inner strength through fashion. Get in the front seat in the fight for your life and control your destiny by looking and feeling great.

Beauty is a powerful, universal tool and when a woman feels fabulous, she feels confident. With confidence comes an immense feeling that she can do anything; nothing bothers her, nothing brings her down. A woman with this kind of mental strength and power views cancer as nothing more than a little obstacle she has to face before her life finally begins.

However, a woman who is diagnosed with cancer may find it extremely hard to feel this way. Fortunately, that feeling of pessimism is fleeting due to fashion, makeup and beauty products. The effect that beauty has on women can help them to regain their confidence in virtually no time and all and have them feeling like their cancer is just an illness they have, it doesn’t define who they are. Every woman can feel beautiful, powerful and confident in her own skin, even if she is living with cancer.

Fashion is one of the best things that can happen in a woman’s life. There is something about the way fashion helps a woman to feel better and rejuvenate herself instantly. When she has a bad day, she may find she feels better with a little retail therapy. Perhaps she finds the perfect pair of designer shoes and when she slips them on her feet, she automatically feels more glamorous and beautiful. When she finds a gorgeous designer dress that hugs her curves and shows off her gorgeous gams, she wants to walk right out of the store and show everyone how sexy she is.

Makeup has the same effect; when a woman puts on makeup she is essentially covering her self-perceived flaws and leaving herself looking and feeling more beautiful than ever. Bronzing yourself or applying some blush can instantly give a warm, glowing look highlighting your awesome cheekbones. Or try brushing on a deep, smokey eye shadow to give yourself that look of sophistication and class. Women who wear organic makeup feel even better because each time they apply their makeup, they know they are doing something good for the environment and for their skin.

Beauty and fashion are great ways women can feel better about their life and their looks. When a woman feels beautiful, she feels confident. When a woman feels confident, she will handle her cancer treatments with a positive outlook because she will be in the driver’s seat to her own life. Don’t be a passenger in the fight for you life, grab life by the wheel and be the best person you can be; fashion and makeup will only make you look better while doing it!

02/16/12 OOTD

Oh no! I lost a couple of followers whilst hibernating.... )':
Kinda sad. .. but anyway, I'm just such a lazy bum during the winter months. But I will definitely try and post more often. I just didn't want to force myself to blog, yeah? I think this should be something that I want to do..

Anyway, I'm not going to lie. If I had to describe my choice of clothing these days.... in one word.. it would most likely be hobo/bum. It's just so comfortable to layer pieces and to wear slightly over sized clothing.. but it has definitely blinded me in terms of how out of shape I was getting.... FML.

Well, just thought I would do a quick OOTD..

Jacket: thrift; Shirt: Hot Topic, Leggings: Japan,
Boots: DSW, Purse: Steve Madden, Glasses: (prescription): Derek Cardigan

And a quick shot of my nails :)

Goodness. I just haven't really gone anywhere that requires dressing up lately.. so.. I just can't be bothered.

Well! Good day, then!

baby it's cold outside

So, naturally, I've been inside. To be honest, I hate the cold weather.. unless there's snow :)

Anyway, just as an update.. No, I haven't started detoxing yet.. can't really expect myself to restrict my diet during the holiday season.. and I must say, I do think that the TARTE multiplEYE is working... My lashes seem much longer!

Not to mention the fact that I actually developed a technique to prevent the product from freaking infiltrating my eyeball.. First of all, don't apply too closely to the lash line.. second of all, allow it to dry before blinking aggressively.. not that I blink in such manner.. but I don't know. Just be careful! And don't let the liquid pool at the outer corners of your eyes... whenever that happens.. I kind of use my pinky nail and I gingerly scoop out the excess product.. nine times out of ten, however, it's already too late and my eyeballs on fire.

But worry not! I think it's simply because of my hooded "monolid" eyes.. yeah. Unless you too have hooded eyes.. then please. Take heed to my advice!

ANYWAY! I went on the biggest thrift store haul ever! And I got SOOOOO many things.. most of what I've bought isn't with me at the moment.. so as soon as I get the chance.. I SWEAR to take pictures.. or at least do some OOTD's :)

I couldn't believe how lucky I was to have stumbled upon all those great finds! HEHE

I can't wait to do a Christmas/Holiday OOTD as well!
......I just realized I go shopping quite often.. I really must stop spending so much money..

WHICH BRINGS ME TO THE MAIN POINT OF THIS POST- BARGAINS :)

Here are some great finds that I want to share with you guys that will definitely help you save:

  • Not sure when it ends..but.. American Eagle: in stores and online 40% off entire purchase
  • http://www.ae.com/web/browse/category.jsp?catId=cat4840018 Check out their accessories! Relatively cheap already.. AND you get the 40% off your ENTIRE purchase. I always take advantage of these sales and stock up on perfume. Their Bohemian (I think it's discontinued right now..) smells freaking mmmazing.
  • Jennifer Lopez Platform Heels: found at Kohl's in the colors tan and black.. only $30.99!

  • Candie's Peeptoe Platform Heels: found at Kohl's for only $35.99!  I don't know if I would personally purchase these.. but I really like the shape of this.
  • I'm really starting to love Jessica Simpson's shoes..BECKERY Platform Pumps: $49.00! comes in sea green (pictured above) and platinum
  • trendyoak from ebay.com: all of them only $31.99!! I found some on sale for five or so dollars less.. but I can't find the link back.. but hey! these are still quite the bargain. I find it hilarious how it's practically the same shoe .....except not. HAHAH but I do love the shape of these.. if you know what I mean.
Okay, I have to go now.. but I will be back with more holiday bargains :)
Good day, then!

HAHAHA okay.
I will save up and buy me AT LEAST a pair or two out of this list or.. maybe.. Santa will hear me out.

Oh. I'm also looking for new running shoes.. not that I need them. My Nike Free Runners are AMAZING.. but it doesn't hurt to look, yeah?

I took a test.. and this is what NIKE suggests:
NIKE Air Pegasus+ 27 GTX

...wtf. I was unhappy with the shoe visually..so I retook the test and answered a bit differently (not much I can lie about since it's dealing with what kind of runner I am and physical details)

Anyway....I got the same shoe again. Touché, Nike. Touché.

Haha well until next time, yeah?
Good day, then!

TARTE MultiplEYE Lash Enhancer

Sephora recently sent out a $20.00 dollar gift card for all the V.I.B. members.. (only valid with a $50 purchase)

Anyway, I had about a $37 store credit on file.. so I decided to pick a few things up.

Throughout the week.. I'll review everything I got.. but here's a list:

  • Fleshpot by MAC (might as well pick up another tube.. I'm almost out and most MAC stores will be sending them back soon.. hopefully, they'll bring this lippie back out, yeah?) Oh, and this product wasn't purchased there. I got it from a MAC counter.
  • Laura Mercier Mineral Powder Foundation (Natural Beige.. or Classic Beige? I'll double check once I post up pictures..)
  • TARTE MultiplEYE Lash Enhancer
  • Sephora Matte Bronzer in Los Cabos
  • NAKED Urban Decay Pallete (FINALLY!!)
Quite a haul, yeah? But... oh well! I picked up everything I've been itching to pick up..
I just told myself that after this.. I'm not allowed to purchase anymore for quite some time.

But to be fair, it's my inner makeup artist just wanting to come out. It's fun to have a wider variety of makeup to experiment on myself and on others :)

Anyway, I thought I would keep up with the TARTE multiplEYE Lash Enhancer before and after pictures here on my blog.. I'll update on a weekly basis.

In essence, this product is all natural and it claims to increase the appearance of lash length by 152%..

I'm not going to lie, I'm pretty excited to try this out.. I've read tons of good reviews on Sephora.com.. so I figured I would give it a go.. It retails for roughly $66 dollars. At first, I couldn't really justify the price but.. I
did have about $50 of credit..so...Yep.

Sorry, for the awkward positioning.. I didn't have both hands free.
And I apologize for the crappy nails..

So as you can see.. it's a brush applicator as opposed to other treatments that have the mascara like brush wand.

It advises the user to apply the product daily, both in the morning and in the night. I've used this yesterday night.. and this morning. So.. this is DAY 1:

Both eyes.. and yeah, my skin isn't looking too pretty..
You must apply the product to CLEAN, DRY skin..
So behold.. my legit bare skin.

Left eye (DAY1)

Right eye (DAY1)

To be honest, I've yet (not that I've owned this long enough anyway) to develop a technique that allows me to use it  WITHOUT dying a little.. this stuff STINGS if even a teeny bit seeps into my eyeball.. Maybe I'm applying too close to the lash line?? Having said that, I don't want to apply too far away either.. I don't want hairy lids?

..is that even possible?

I'm not sure.. but yes. This is DAY 1. Let's hope that this product helps me out :)

By the way, I have tried both the Talika and Peter Thomas Roth eyelash enhancers.. unfortunately, I didn't get very impressive results.. which is ridiculous because the latter product retails for $120.. I believe.

Anyway, I must go work soon :)

Good day, then!
-Priscilla

P.S.
Whilst at Sephora, I had the best customer service. I met the nicest woman there.. and during the conversation, we both realized we were Brazilians! HAHAHA It was so nice to talk in Portuguese again with someone out of the family. I couldn't have been more pleased.

Another worker was extremely helpful too.. and so honest. If I were to ask for assistance with products, nine times out of ten, they'll take you to higher end products. How many times have they led you to the Sephora brand makeup? Anyway, he helped me with the Sephora bronzer.. which I LOVE! It's got the nicest, creamy consistency.

He then told me that.. Sephora brand makeup is made by the same people who make DIOR :) How awesome is that? You can definitely count on their makeup for being high quality... they are able to keep the prices low because there is no middle man.

Haha, just thought it was a neat fact :)

lazy days

I've been incredibly sluggish the past few weeks. I'm afraid I'm beginning to see a trend in my posts.. all I do is complain about how lazy I've been. I'm going to ramble a bit.

So I've been packing on some pounds. Eight to be exact... and it's seriously taking a toll on my confidence. Anyway, I've been exercising as I usually do.. if not harder. But it's still a tad bit hard. Ha! My friend and I are on a bet until MARCH. (I may possibly die) We're basically restricting ourselves from sweets and junk food. We both have a goal as well. I would want to drop 20 lbs.

Anyway, the punishment for caving in and falling victim to my sweet tooth?

He gets to shave my head ... partially.

Granted... it's just hair..............but still.

HAHAA let's hope I don't cave in... but if I were to cave in.. it would make for an interesting blog post, yeah? .. eh.

I've picked up a few things recently.. actually quite a lot of things.. I just can't be bothered at the moment to snap a picture of anything.. I really think blogging isn't as exciting if you aren't equipped with the proper tools.

But I must show you guys one of my favorite new shoes :)

I think they are absolutely gorgeous :) and incredibly comfortable as well!

Want to know the story behind these babies?
I was actually out at Atlantic Station.. shopping with a few friends.. we were celebrating her 21st :) Unfortunately.. the heels I was wearing that day... completely gave out. The whole bottom of the heel was dragging and hanging out.. so embarrassing. More so because we were going to a relatively nice place for dinner.. and I didn't want to look trashy.

So.. I went into H&M in hopes of finding cheap, decent shoes.... and honestly.. everything was mediocre and rather pricey.. I'd rather pay an extra 10-15 dollars and get nicer shoes, yeah?

Having said that, I went into Dillards.. in search for a decent pair of heels.. that were reasonably priced.

These platforms are by Jessica Simpson and they cost me about $52 ? Not too shabby :) I like 'em.

Whilst there, I helped a friend pick out some concealer from MAC. HEHE it was her first legit makeup purchase and I was simply ecstatic to help her out.

Helping her.. made me want to splurge a bit myself on some makeup.. and for some odd reason.. I always end up in the hands of a freaking sales associate.. I CAN NEVER SAY NO!?!?!

I ended up being introduced to Napoleon Perdis.. and I must say.. I'm quite impressed.

If you have been with me for some time.. you would know that I simply avoid primers in general. I hate the gel-like constancy of most primers.. I literally feel the silicone in some of them.. I don't know. I'm just not fond of them. I've tried almost every primer out there.. and I've only been okay with a few.. but not enough to wear daily.

Having said, I'm pretty much in love with his Auto Pilot Pre-Foundation Primer.

DESCRIPTION:
A scientifically developed lightweight formula that¿s perfect for all skin types to prime and smooth the complexion for that flawless finish. Filled with calming botanicals such as Chamomile to soften redness in sensitive skin types and Yarrow extract to reactivate the beneficial ingredients in your skincare and foundation. Pure Vitamin E smoothes skin texture and adds hydration, keeping skin looking fresh and flawless all day long.Chamomile - Heals the skin and relieves stress. Yarrow Extract - A healing and calming botanical with anti-inflammatory properties. Vitamin E - Soothes skin.
- Napoleon Perdis

It does have a fragrance to it.. but I kind of like it.. It has a very watery consistency but it works just fine. But the one thing that stood out to me was.. wow, this feels more like a moisturizer. It felt so different from anything I've ever tried before.. I tend to always feel like I'm suffocating or something whenever I used anything else.. but this was so refreshing!? It's incredibly moisturizing and not all greasy. Perfect for the winter months.

I wouldn't substitute this as a moisturizer, of course.. but some extra hydration never hurts :) It's long lasting and the perfect base.

I'm not going to lie.. it's a tad pricey though.. $39 .. but a little goes a long way.

My skin is just extremely sensitive.. and I may brake out with eczema soon.. so I'm kind of hoping this primer will help me out a bit. It does have Chamomile which may help calm my crazy skin.

Hahah so that's my post for today :)
Hope it was helpful. I do apologize for no personal pictures.
An OOTD may be on its way.

Good day, then!

a little haul/review

I picked up a few things here and there..

Oh.. and WOW. I just thought I'd share... how I ended up NOT using my 20% percent VIB discount at Sephora.. TWENTY FREAKING PERCENT.. Ugh... It was all a matter of time/money management.. and I obviously suck at both..

Anyway.. I went to Sephora recently to pick up my friend's birthday present.. I then proceeded to browse around.. (I hadn't been there in ages) and GOODNESS. I was so tempted to just splurge and buy everything.. sigh.

I really wanted to buy the Laura Mercier Mineral Powder foundation.. remember that sample that a lady made for me ages ago? ...well, I just recently tried it out.. and oh my goodness. I'm in love. I always thought a matte complexion was the way to go.. but this foundation has made me think otherwise. It gives you such a healthy, natural glow.

HOWEVER... I was impatient.. and a week earlier.. I bought a powder foundation from Origins.. Brighter by Nature with SPF 30.. in Light/Medium Warm...... and to be quite honest... I know I'm a bit unhappy. Although it's warm... I can't help but feel as if I look a bit pink sometimes.. and I tend to look... so... chalky? ... so unruly. I'm not sure.. and not to mention the oil production gone haywire. ...

Sadly, I have thrown away my receipt and the packaging... I guess I had too much faith in Origins.

Maybe I'm not using it right... I suppose the fact that I'm using it to set my BB cream is affecting the makeup's finish? ...I'm not sure.. but my skin is incredibly clear these days.. it's crazy!

Light/Medium Warm

Back to Sephora.. I decided to only get my friend's present.. but then I remembered I was almost out of my Clinique gel liner.. I was about to grab either the Sephora one ($10) or the same Clinique one ($15~$16).. but then.. my eyes caught site of that little stand full of value sets/ mini products.. and I saw this:

(information from Sephora.com)

I paid $25... and I get a FULL SIZED clay liner ($22)
Hell yes.

The right is the lip tint and the right is the cheek stain.

I'm not much a blush person.. I did however try it out.. and I was pleasantly surprised at how well it blended out.

The lip tint, on the other hand, I absolutely LOVE. It's nice, moisturizing, minty... mmm. and extremely pigmented.. UNFORTUNATELY.. the color is just too vibrant and pink/red for me.. I'm considering purchasing this in a nude color..

I quite like this mascara.
I have yet to use this on myself.. but it worked wonderfully on my sister's lashes. It adds noticeable length and volume.. it also holds a very nice curl. Did I mention it's natural and conditioning?

My sister's au natural face.

After she's been made up:
She's only ten, mind you. I had to keep it really clean and simple. Since I virtually have no lashes.. I thought she would serve as a better model to demonstrate a before and after for these products.

Products used:
Origins Brighter by Nature (Light/Medium Warm), Amazing concealer (Tan), a light wash of a shimmering gold eyeshadow (It's from Kohl's), and the Lights! Camera! Lashes! by Tarte

As you can see.. the Tarte Lip Surge in Enchanted is extremely pigmented.

She didn't like it either.. so here's my favorite lippie..
Fleshpot by MAC

(I got to snag me some more before they run out!!  :C  )

Ain't she cute??

By the way.. I'm surprised I didn't take a photo of her lashes up close.. HOLY CRAP. Her lashes.. especially her bottom ones... what the super length is this? ..lajsdaksdalksjda seriously. They are so long.. her lashes were getting tangled up with each other (the top and bottom) .. I never even knew that could happen..

I'm so jealous..

Anyway. Hope this was helpful :) You guys should definitely check out the value sets at Sephora right now...

ULTA is having a 20% coupon as well! And I believe it ends today..? However! They are still having massive deals and discounts :)

Well, good day then!
